This week at Cornerstone Camden, Chris shared a powerful message about what it means to be fully committed to God in every area of our lives.
The message looked closely at the life of Peter. Peter was the disciple who had enough faith to step out of the boat and walk toward Jesus on the water. But when Peter took his eyes off Jesus and focused on the wind and the waves around him, fear took over and he began to sink. Jesus reached out and saved him.
Later, Peter confidently told Jesus that he would never abandon Him. Yet before Jesus was crucified, Peter denied three separate times that he even knew Jesus.
Peter loved Jesus, but his story shows us that loving God and being completely surrendered to God are not always the same thing.
It is easy to follow Jesus when life feels calm. The real test of our faith often comes when the storms arrive, when following God becomes uncomfortable, or when obedience requires us to give Him control over parts of our lives that we would rather hold onto.
Jesus did not give up on Peter after his failure. He restored him, strengthened him, and ultimately used Peter to help build the early Church.
That same grace is available to us.
The question Chris challenged us to consider is simple but powerful:
Are we following God only in the areas of life that are comfortable, or have we truly given Him everything?
Our relationships.
Our work.
Our finances.
Our decisions.
Our habits.
Our plans.
Our fears.
Our future.
Jesus is not asking for one part of our lives. He is calling us to trust Him with all of it.
When we stumble like Peter did, we do not have to remain in our failure. We can turn back to Christ, receive His grace, and continue moving forward with a deeper and stronger faith.
Keep your eyes on Jesus. Trust Him in the storm. And choose each day to become more fully committed to Him in every part of your life.
